Group Exhibition, Hotel Tiger Zurich
There are several myths that deal with the appearance of more than one sun. Night and day become pure symbolic acts, as one sun goes down and the other comes up. Or sunrise and sunset don’t happen at all anymore. Perhaps under constant sunshine we stop feeling the horizon.
The romantic notion that someone far away is looking at the same sun at the same moment from different parts of the world creates a connection in a moment of geographical and temporal split. One sun can spark the promise of reconcilability on a fragmented planet. It holds the power of life, can carry the potential of destruction as well as the promise of a world beyond.
What if multiple suns became a metaphor to think about plural, complex realities unfolding next to each other, influencing each other, pushing to rethink time and space and life in fragmented realities? Where do you even start to look, when there is more than one sun? Is there only implosion in fragmentation?
Zurich-Hotel Tiger: In an apartment that works as an off/space Olga Popova, Wiebke Wiesner and Larissa Platz invited several artists who in a broad sense deal with the motif of suns and parallel realities. They used the rooms of an apartment to emphasize and unsettle the notion of how we structure our days and spaces according to our understanding of time and space.
